strengths and weaknesses.
STRENGTHS
WEAKNESSES
- Can be an enjoyable and rewarding hobby/career with the appropriate gear and skills.
- Immediate image view on the camera's screen, which allows for possible deletion.
- Greater number of potential photographs with SIM card, unlike changing film rolls after 18-32 shots from a film camera.
- Fast and easy manipulation or modification of photographs.
- Digital photography allows people to witness conservation-related issues and seeing unique species from other regions. (Mittermeier, 2007)
- Ability to zoom in on distant subjects, whether it be an African village many yards away or a rare Amur leopard just outside pouncing range.
WEAKNESSES
- There can be great difficulty in learning the intricate details of the camera and its many functions.
- Equipment, aside from the digital camera, is expensive.
- Downloading, sharing, and modifications to photos can be time-consuming.
- Necessity of additional batteries and/or extra lenses in the case of equipment failure or damage.
- Conservation photographers oftentimes expose themselves to dangerous topics or extreme conditions in order to capture a unique and compelling picture.
- Opportunities for photographing certain subjects or wildlife do not wait, so to speak; wildlife is constantly on the move and to capture them via photography in the appropriate scenery is no easy or patient task. (Farnsworth, 2011)
